Who We Are:
First Christian Church is part of a worldwide movement of Christians who, from the early 1800's have sought unity in the body of Christ through a plea to follow the New Testament model of faith and practice. Our congregation is independent of any denomination, but one with others in Christ. We make no claim to be the only Christians, just Christians only. Our main goals are to bring glory to God and to bring the lost to Christ. Everything we do must help us to fulfill one of these goals. Since 1938, First Christian Church has served this community, always attempting to shine the light of Christ in truth and love.
FCC History
"In October, 1939, if so inclined, one could do any of the following: dine at the Canary Cottage, meet a friend over a nickel coke at the Phoenix Drug, catch a train to anyplace at the Union Station, take in a ball game at Stoll Field, or go dancing at Joyland. Worship service at service at First Christian Church was also an option; the best option. Only the last named activity is still possible, as all of these other institutions have long since vanished. Fifty years from now, if we continue to do God's will, it will still be possible to attend services at First Church.
October 10, 2004, First Christian celebrated the 65th Anniversary of the church. Jack Austin, former youth minister, was the speaker for the day. Jack lead us down memory lane and then to the foot of the cross. Attendance was over 300. The Hewletts, Richard Giles, and Barbara Esenbock Frizzell presented the special music for this day. A meal was provided and great fellowship was enjoyed by all as well as reacquainting with old friends.
October 21, 2007, the church celebrated the 68th Anniversary. Ernie Perry, a former youth minister of First, and now with Broadway Christian Church spoke that day. The music was provided by "The Master Servants" and "The Diggles Family". Special recognition was given to the three remain charter members: Betty Bowman Esenbock, Betty Easley Peters, and Chester Harold Easley. Following the service, a meal on the grounds was enjoyed by all.
October 26, 2008, The 69th Anniversary was a special day. Dan Roberts, former youth minister of First, spoke and visited with the church family. Rick Hawthorn, "The Diggles Family" and "The 4 Elders" provide the special music for that day. There were 135 people in attendance. We enjoyed a great meal after the service. There are now only 2 remaining charter members attending Betty Easley Peters and Chester Harold Easley.
September 17, 2009, For 70 years, First Christian has served the Lord and we continued to look forward to growth for His church. Former Ministers, Ronnie Hupp and Gene Welsh, spoke that day. Attendance topped 125. The meal on the grounds followed the morning worship.
July 11, 2010, Joe Cooper presented a sermon with over 200 in attendance. What a day for the Lord and His church that was! His trial sermon followed up two weeks later on July 25. He was hired to begin on August 15, 2010. Since his coming, First has grown by leaps and bounds! God has and does continue to richly bless us. In our first year alone, we gained over 121 new members either through transfers or baptisms. With the coming of 2012, we have had many more additions. We look forward to many more years with Joe, his leadership, and the growth of God’s church!
