Let the Redeemed of the Lord say SO!
October 2, 2026, 5:00 PM
Greetings in Christ and welcome to the month of October!
I pray you've had a good week so far and will have a wonderful weekend!
We've had a good week at First Christian Church.
On Tuesday night, September 29th, a group from FCC helped prepare and serve a meal to some of our area's homeless population at the Lighthouse Ministries in downtown Lexington, KY. It's the first trip we've made to the Lighthouse this year. And it was a great evening!
We had a RECORD number of our own VOLUNTEERS, with ELEVEN (11), serving supper to 50-55 folks. Lord willing, we'll return to serve again at the Lighthouse very soon!

Earlier this week, one of my morning devotions contained an awesome selection from the Psalms. Listen to Psalms 107:1-2, 8-9: "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story -- those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things."
I thought of my good friend and talented worship leader Gary Nelson when I read this Psalm selection (Psalm 107:2 in particular).
Brother Gary used to lead the congregation in a song called "Let the redeemed of the Lord say So!"
After that main stanza, I especially remember Gary would always yell "SO!" It was awesome. I always loved his enthusiasm!
So what is your "SO"?
What do I mean, you ask?
Let me explain: Saying SO means that we have indeed been redeemed, and, therefore, we truly have a story to tell!
Let us then all speak out and tell others our stories. And what great stories they are. They are about how the Lord rescued us from a life of sin and darkness and gave us a HOPE and a FUTURE!
After all, 1 Peter 2:9 reminds us that we believers "are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light."
Later on in the same letter written by Peter, he says, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have." (1 Peter 3:15)
I pray we would all be prepared when folks ask us about the reason for the HOPE we have!
Again, may the Redeemed proudly say "SO"!

On Sunday mornings at FCC, we have just started a new sermon series looking at the New Testament book of Colossians entitled, "Christ is More Than Enough."
This coming Sunday (10.04.26), we'll be looking at Colossians 1:15-23. Paul's message to the Colossians is radically different:
Jesus isn't part of what we need. Jesus is ALL we need!
I pray you have a great weekend and that we may see you at FCC this coming Sunday. If not, then, Lord willing, we'll see you again soon. Until then, may God bless!

Your friend,
Greg Herriford
