In 2015, a new fall tradition was added to my life.
Earlier that year, I became the preacher at Mt. Eden Christian Church, just outside of Lexington. This was my first preaching ministry.
Mt. Eden holds a Homecoming service every year on the last Sunday of September. This gathering is one of the biggest days of the year on the church calendar.
In fact, Homecomings have a long tradition among church congregations and families in the United States. Depending on the congregation, homecomings may have one or more of several purposes: commemorating a church's anniversary, honoring its deceased, celebrating its members and encouraging those who have moved away to return for a reunion.
Here at FCC, we, too, hold Homecoming services.
In fact, this coming Sunday (09.29.24), we will hold a Homecoming Sunday to celebrate our 85th Anniversary as a church!
In September 1939, about one hundred people who had left Broadway Christian Church began to meet for worship services in the auditorium of the College of Music on Second Street in Lexington, KY. In December 1939 this group organized as the First Christian Church with sixty-six charter members.
The church moved to the former Triangle Fraternity house, at its current site, in 1944. Therefore, FCC is celebrating 80 years of being at our present location on Audubon Avenue!
One thing about Homecoming I especially enjoy is the PEACE and UNITY. It is an event that brings people together. Many folks are working together preparing the church building and grounds for the weekend. Then on Sunday, everyone (young and old) are together under one roof worshiping and serving the Lord together. It's a beautiful thing. It's something I think our Lord and Savior loves.
You are going to enjoy hearing David Welsh, our guest preacher on Sunday.
For the past 7 plus years, David has served as the Lead Minister for the Franklin (TN) Christian Church.
He is no stranger to Lexington and FCC. David spent some of his childhood at FCC as his father Gene served as minister at FCC from 1968-1975.
David is an experienced Minister, Preacher and Pastor with a successful history of working with churches in several different states (Florida, Kentucky, Kansas & Tennessee). He is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University and skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Bible, Discipleship, Pastoral Theology, and Church Consulting.
I hope and pray to see you on Sunday!
We'll have a continental breakfast starting at 8:30 am in the FCC Fellowship Hall.
There will also be many historical displays set up all around our building. Be sure to check them out!
Worship will begin at 10:30 am.
It's going to be a great day. Don't miss it!
God Bless,
Greg H.
