The Lukewarm Church
October 25, 2024, 8:00 PM
Greetings and hope and pray you are having a great week so far.
I took a few days off this week to try to get caught up with things around the house.
Let me say a big THANKS to Tim Barnes for teaching this past Wednesday night (10.23.24). He did a great job!
The last few days have been very nice for working outside.
I love this time of the year. It's not too hot and not yet too cold.
While that makes great weather, it does not make for a great spiritual condition.
This coming Sunday (10.27.24), as we continue our series looking at the "Seven Churches of Revelation," we'll talk about a church that made Jesus sick. The church at Laodicea was known as the "Lukewarm Church." The spiritual fervor of the church was neither hot nor cold.
The church in the city was neither GOOD nor BAD...just LUKEWARM. They were not EVIL, just INDIFFERENT.
The city was known as a strategic banking center and, therefore, it was a very wealthy town. The people were very self-sufficient.
The church of Laodicea had become dependent on its resources and not on the Lord. Self-sufficiency can be a very deceptive sin.

It can be easy to become that way. Life is fast-paced today. If we aren't careful, it's very easy to miss what God is saying to us and begin to depend only on ourselves. I don't think most of us tune God out on purpose. It's that we have SO MANY voices calling for our attention! I pray that you and I will continue to listen to God (and for Him) in this ever-changing world we live in.
One sure way to hear God is by staying in His word.
I've tried to commit to doing that each day. That's also why I try to send some scripture passages to each one of our church members each week (to help everyone with this).
Let's all try and slow down. Let's also try to limit distractions so we can be more readily available to hear what God is trying to tell us.
My prayer is for all of us to stay strong, keeping an open mind and soft heart for the Lord!

This next week:
There will be no Meal and Bible Study on Wednesday, October 30th.
We will have our Trunk or Treat outreach event on Thursday, October 31stThe event will be held from 6-8 pm.
That night, we will have candy for the kids, chili for the entire family, and an indoor maze. We’ve advertising this event at Glendover and Picadome Elementary Schools along with some houses and apartments close to the church. We could use a few more cars to be involved. Please sign up at the information booth in the main foyer if you can help!

May God continue to bless you. I hope and pray to see you this Sunday at FCC or sometime again soon!

In Him,
Greg H.
