Greetings in Christ.
I pray you've had a great week so far. It's been a hot one, but it sounds like the temperatures will be cooling down starting this weekend.
With Labor Day upon us, the summer is winding down.
I'm also winding down our series of Sunday morning messages in the Old Testament book of Psalms. Before we conclude, though, I want to take one last lesson from this book of emotion, devotion, and wisdom. We will talk a little bit about the idea of REST and WAITING on God by looking at the 46th Psalm this coming Sunday (09.01.24) at First Christian.
Do you enjoy waiting? Probably not. Most folks do not like to wait.
When I am forced to wait because things didn't go the way I thought they should go, I usually pout for a bit (throw a pity party for myself)
My next response is "don't just sit there -- make SOMETHING happen!"
That seldom works out well. When we take things into our hands, we most always end up making a mess.
There are times when God wants us to "sit there -- and wait on Him." He wants us to "BE STILL and KNOW that HE is GOD." (Psalms 46:10).
Maybe you have been or are currently in such a place in life?
We can draw inspiration from Job.
You may remember his story from the Old Testament in the Bible. Job lost EVERYTHING (and he had a bunch) in a matter of a couple of days.
Job's response was remarkable. He would not curse God but, instead, wait on Him with his hope still in Him.
Listen to what Rick Warren says from his online daily devotional..."When the situation looks hopeless, even though there's a time delay, you hope on. God's delays are not necessarily God's denials. We have to learn there is a big difference between "no" and "not yet." Delay never destroys the purposes of God in your life. God is never late even though it may look like it. We just need to have the attitude of Job. No matter what happens, I'm going to hold on, praying expectantly."
In the past, I have not been good with waiting patiently on the Lord. I am getting a little better.
I pray that we all can strive to model this attitude of Job more and more in our lives.
I encourage you to wait for the Lord. Be still and know that God is in control!
We'd love to see you on Sunday at FCC. Our Bible School starts at 9:30 am and Worship at 10:30 am.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
God Bless,
Greg H.
