Greetings and Happy Friday/Saturday!
I hope and pray you've had a good week.
We are heading into the final days of August (that is hard to believe how fast this year has progressed).
As Labor Day approaches and we leave the summer, we are wrapping up my series of messages from the Old Testament book of The Psalms.
We have a couple of sermons left, however, before we move forward (Lord willing).
One of them will be this Sunday (08.25.24) at FCC as look at the 18th Psalm and talk some about the emotion of LOVE.
"LOVE" is probably the most overused word in the English language.
Ralph Sockman said, “Love is an overworked word for an under-employed emotion.”
For example, We use the same word to describe our feelings for a team or hobby -- We love the UK Wildcats...We love to HUNT & FISH... We love to SHOP -- as we do to describe our feelings for our wife or children and we tell people we barely know that we love them.
We teach our children not to say "hate" because it's such a strong word, but we never teach them not to overuse "love" until it's lost all meaning.
On Sunday, we'll look at what the Bible says about that crazy four-letter word -- LOVE.
My daily devotion from Rick Warren's ministry for today (08.23.24) had an interesting statement that read, "Worry is a warning light that we doubt the love of God."
I stand convicted of falling prey to worry sometimes (and probably more than I care to admit). I bet we can say the same for all of us!
Time and time again, though, God reminds us of His faithful love for us in His word.
For example, Psalm 111:5 says God "provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever."
What about the central theme of the entire Bible? God sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for you and me to pay for our salvation.
If God loves us enough to send His one and only son to die for you and me, how can you and I forget that he loves us enough to take care of our daily needs?
There's no need to sweat the small stuff!
Let's worry LESS and trust Him and His great love for us MORE!
HOMECOMING is COMING! Please keep our big Homecoming service at FCC on Sunday, September 29th in your prayers. We'll also be celebrating the 85th anniversary of First Christian! I encourage everyone to make a point of actively inviting friends and folks to this service.
Many, many months ago, I reached out to a good friend of mine named David Welsh and asked him to come and speak for our Homecoming. He graciously accepted and will be here with us for the service.
There is a special connection with First Christian for David. He spent some time as a young person in the late 1960s/early 1970s as his father Gene preached at FCC from 1968-1975.
Currently, David is the Lead Minister at the Franklin Christian Church, just outside of Nashville, TN.
He is an experienced Minister, Preacher, and Pastor with a successful history of working with churches in several states (Florida, Kentucky, Kansas & Tennessee). He is a graduate of Kentucky Christian University and skilled in Nonprofit Organizations, Bible, Discipleship, Pastoral Theology, and Church Consulting.
We'd love to see you on Sunday at FCC. Our Bible School starts at 9:30 am and Worship at 10:30 am.
God Bless,
Greg H.
