Wrapping Up May!
May 31, 2024, 5:00 PM
Greetings in Christ!
I hope and pray you had a great Memorial Day weekend and are having a good week.

It was a great Sunday (last week) at First Christian Church on May 26, 2024, as we witnessed Josh Boes being baptized following the morning worship service.
Josh is a young man from Northwest Ohio, who now lives here in Lexington. He and my oldest daughter Autumn have been dating for a few months. Josh is very interested in learning more about being a disciple of Jesus Christ. I am currently disciplining him.
We witnessed not only a baptism but a new birth as well.
When one comes to Christ and is baptized into Him, they become a new creation in Christ. Josh put his old self to death and invited Jesus to be the Lord of his life. He has also invited Jesus and the Holy Spirit to "take up residence" in his entire life.
Ephesians 4: 20-24 says, "That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus. You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
This is a choice we must make every day as we allow Jesus to be Lord over ALL of our lives.
When we do this, we have one in Jesus who is even better than a brother -  Proverbs 18:24"One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother."

BTW - Did you know that FCC has a softball team?
Let me explain. Some folks from my previous church (Mt. Eden Christian Church) approached me earlier in the spring and asked if I might want to play slow-pitch softball with them in a church/recreational league played on Friday nights in Nicholasville, KY.
Mt. Eden ended up having enough people for one team and half of a second one. I came through with the 5 people from First Christian to fill out the second team. Therefore, one of the Mt. Eden teams is a collaboration of two churches - Mt. Eden and FCC.
The players representing FCC are Greg Herriford, Andrew Elam, Lee Wolphagen, Jacob Tellman, and Josh Boes.
The season has gone pretty well. It has been very fun and we've avoided any major injuries.
We've even won a couple of games along the way!
The last two weeks have seen games being rained out.
The rains have stopped and it's time to finish the softball season.
We have two makeup games:
Tonight (May 31) @ 8 pm and next Friday night (June 07) @ 7 pm.
A postseason tournament begins on June 14.

Come out and watch us.
We play in Nicholasville at the City/County Park. The address is 402 Park Dr, Nicholasville, KY 40356.
You may be inspired or receive some comic relief. Either way, it will be a good time!

We'd also love to see you on Sunday at FCC.
Our Bible School starts at 9:30 am and Worship at 10:30 am.

God Bless,
Greg H.
