Hello and I pray you've had a terrific week.
Here's a quick question: How many stars are there in our solar system? I heard that question on the radio one morning this week.
My guess was a million plus. What is the answer you ask? ONE.
Yes, the Sun is the only star in our solar system. Our solar system consists of the Sun and everything that orbits it, including the planets, moons, asteroids, and comets. The Sun's immense gravity holds the entire system together.
In our solar system, the moon glows and gives off light. Moonlight, however, is only a small reflection of the sun's powerful light.
Just as we humans cannot stare too long at the powerful sun, humans look directly at the presence of God.
God told Moses in Exodus 33:20, "you cannot see my face, for man shall not see and live."
In Jesus, however, we CAN see God and know more about what God is like.
God revealed His glory in His Son - Jesus - to prove that Jesus is fully human, but also the Son of God.
Through Jesus, God Himself is revealed, reflecting all of God’s brilliance and blazing presence. As Hebrews 1:3 says, "The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
And just as everything in our solar system revolves around the SUN, so does everything also revolve around the "SON" -- Jesus Christ.
What about you and me? Have we made Jesus, the SON, the center of our universe?
I hope and pray the answer is "yes."
As October begins to wrap up, I want to remind you of a few things on the horizon in November:
1) On Saturday, November 1st, we'll be hosting a Meal Packing event here at FCC sponsored by Barbara Rendel and Scatter Joy Ministries. The event will begin at 10:30 am in the FCC Fellowship Hall. You may sign up at the Information Desk located in the main foyer at FCC.
One of the goals of this project is to provide a “hands-on” activity that encourages missions and outreach in both individuals and the local church. Volunteers will be assembling and packing shelf stable, nutritious meals that will be shipped to children and families who struggle with hunger and malnutrition. On November 1st, we'll be packing around 25,000 meals for children in Liberia, Africa.
Over the past two years, FCC has partnered with other churches for a greater impact. This year, we'll be partnering with Big Hill Christian Church in Richmond, KY.
2) Our own Christian Ladies Fellowship is sponsoring a clothing drive during the month of November for Natalie's Sisters.
Natalie’s Sisters is a local, faith-based organization dedicated to supporting sex-trafficked and sexually exploited women through various outreach programs and community resources.
CLF will be collecting leggings (NO jeans please), long sleeve shirts and sweatshirts, fleece blankets, and new or gently worn athletic shoes. Please put your donations in the blue barrels located at each end of the main foyer.
This coming Sunday, October 26th, I will continue in our sermon series called “IDENTITY CRISIS.” We are going to be looking at the church as the "Bride of Christ."
Let's end the month of October on a positive note. I hope and pray we will see you there!
Until then...
God Bless,
Greg H.
