Greetings in Christ and happy Friday to you!
I hope and pray you have had a good week so far. We've had a good week at FCC.
We were FINALLY able to offer services again after canceling them for the first two weeks of 2025 due to snow and ice.
In spite of the snowy weather last Sunday (01.19.25), we had a small crowd, but a GREAT service.
This past Wednesday night (01.22.25), we kicked off our mid-week gatherings with a great night of food, fellowship, and God's word! Taylor Davis brought a great message, inspiring us to not bury our talents and give our best to the Lord.
I am going to continue this theme from Jesus’ Parable of the Talents in my Sunday morning sermons over the next few weeks. During these messages, I’ll be encouraging folks to not “bury their talent,” and instead use it to be a light in the world around them.
FYI: One of the BIG things I'll be asking our folks at FCC this year is to GET MORE INVOLVED in some ministry or activity!
We do want to remember the Meadows family in prayer. Ron Meadows passed away last Saturday (01.18.25) at the age of 84.
Ron was raised going to church at the old Maxwell Street Christian Church in downtown Lexington, KY. He was a 1962 graduate of Cincinnati Bible College.
Throughout his life, Ron pastored several churches and taught Sunday School and many other Bible classes. In recent years, Ron attended and served as an Elder here at First Christian.
Funeral services will be 12:30 pm Monday, January 27, 2025, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Harrodsburg Road. Visitation will be 10:30 am – 12:30 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.
In Matthew 14, we can read of two of Jesus' most famous miracles -- the feeding of the 5,000 and walking on water.
In both of them, we see something pretty cool. When the 12 disciples FOCUSED on the WRONG thing they couldn't do anything amazing. However, when they focused on and listened to Jesus, they were enabled to be part of supernatural and miraculous things.
Here's why I say this: With the huge crowd to feed, the disciples were focused on the LARGE CROWD and the LITTLE AMOUNT of FOOD (2 Fish and 5 Loaves of Bread). When they focused and listened to Jesus, they fed 5K and had plenty of leftovers to take home!
During the storm on the Sea of Galilee, Peter was walking on water for a bit. It was only when he took his eyes off Jesus and started looking more at the storm that he began to SINK!
A lot comes down to FOCUS and where you and I choose to place it.
The important question is this: What or Who is getting the majority of your attention in your life right now?
I believe that if we will focus on Jesus in 2025, the Lord can and will do miraculous things in our lives and at First Christian Church here in Lexington, KY!
In the words of that great old church hymn...
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace!
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace!
Keep FOCUSED and SEE you SUNDAY (Lord willing)!
In Him,
Greg H.
