Greetings in Christ! I hope and pray you've had a good week.
Folks have been busy at FCC this week. We've had a lot of cleaning going on at the church building. In addition, we had several volunteers help Barbara Rendel and Scatter Joy Ministries with a Habitat for Humanity home build project on Thursday (07.17.25). Tomorrow - Saturday (07.19.25) - we have a clean up day at Elizabeth Street Park scheduled.
Last Sunday (07.13.25), we had some terrible violence here in Lexington, part of which occured in a church building.
Let's continue to pray for those affected by the shootings here in Lexington. It hits home for many of us when we see violent acts happening in our own backyard. Before coming to FCC, I preached at the Mt. Eden Christian Church. The Mt. Eden church building is located about 5 miles from the church where some of the shooting/violence took place.
In a world that feels like it's gone mad, we need assurance and confidence from the Lord. The Lord is a place that we can turn to at all times, but especially in times of great distress and uncertainty.
I thank God for that.
The Bible is full of wonderful passages that describe the Lord as a "fortress," a "rock," and a "refuge."
Where do you run to when everything seems to fall apart? Run to Jesus! He'll never force Himself on anyone. When we start heading His way, His arms are always open wide!
The Old Testament gives us a great example of God providing shelter during a time of storm for those who are faithful to Him.
We'll be talking about it this coming Sunday (07.20.25), we explore the account of Noah and the Flood found in Genesis.
On Sunday mornings at FCC, we have begun a new sermon series looking at how we can find Jesus throughout the Old Testament.
As God brought the entire earth into judgment through a catastrophic flood, He provided a place of shelter and safety for Noah and his family. Genesis 6:8-9 says, "Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God."
Noah listened to God and built the ark. When it was time for the flood to begin, Noah and his family chose to enter the ark (with two of every animal kind) and “the Lord shut him in” (Genesis 7:16). We must be obedient, but it is God alone who saves us and preserves us.
You can hear more about this remarkable story and see the numerous comparisons between Noah’s time and Jesus’ time, as well as our present day!
Bring a friend and I hope and pray we'll see you this Sunday at FCC!
God Bless,
Greg H.
