Hello and I hope you've had a good week!
We resumed our mid-week services here at First Christian Church this past Wednesday, August 19th.
I looked back at some of my notes and found that we began our Wednesday night services on July 13, 2022.
As we are now entering our 5th year, I'm thrilled to announce...
"Wednesdays at the Well -- Nourishment for our Bodies & Souls"
[Meal @ 6 pm; Bible Study @ 6:45 pm]
This fall, we'll be looking at "ESSENTIALS of our FAITH." I hope and pray we will see you there!
The study of God's word is very important to the growth of a Christian. The Bible gives us a lot of great wisdom for living and instruction for life.
Among the wise instructions are how to best use our MOUTHS and FEET.
One of the most frequent times "mouth" and "foot" are used together in our culture is when someone says, "I really put my foot in my mouth!" This, of course, means to say something embarrassing, foolish, or offensive without intending that.
Then there are other times that we fully intend to hurt someone with our words.
The Bible warns us to guard our lips and watch what we say with our words! Man, I mess up in this category a lot!
Listen to Proverbs 18:7: "The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives."
On the other hand, one of the best things we can do with our mouths/words is to TELL others the GOOD NEWS about Jesus.
Listen to the Apostle Paul in Romans 10:14: "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?" Paul goes on to say this in Romans 10:15: "And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!' "
One of our goals of the Wednesday night class is to give people enough information and training that they can be better prepared and more highly motivated to share the Good News with others!
And about Feet: we don't normally associate beauty with feet. To most people, the feet are one of the least attractive parts of the human body.
They are beautiful, though, when bringing GOOD NEWS. And there is no better news than "Jesus Saves!"
We should always give careful consideration to where we go and what paths we take in life.
Proverbs 4:26-27 reminds us of this saying, "Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil."
Here's my challenge this week: Let us all use our MOUTHS to 1) Praise the Lord MORE, 2) Tell others about Him MORE, and 3) INVITE someone to Wednesday night Bible study. Then let's use our FEET to take us to FCC on Wednesday night (or feel free to drive the majority of the way).
As far as instructions for Godly living go, we are talking about that very thing on Sunday mornings at FCC. We are looking at Jesus' Sermon on the Mount where Jesus teaches what life looks like under God's rule. This coming Sunday (08.23.26), I will continue our "Head for the Hills" sermons. I pray we will see you at FCC this coming Sunday. If not, then, Lord willing, we'll see you again soon. May God bless!
Your friend,
Greg Herriford
