Greetings in Christ! I pray you've had a good week so far and you are staying warm during this cold and snowy weather!
Recently, we've been looking at some of the names of Jesus on Sunday mornings at FCC. We've focused on three in particular that tell us who Jesus is and why He came to earth.
Luke 2:11 tells us, one night, an angel told some shepherds who were watching their flocks in the fields, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” In this statement, we find all three of the names of Jesus we are looking at -- "Savior," "Messiah" and "Lord."
In Revelation 5, John describes a scene from heaven where he is wondering who will be worthy of opening a book/scroll that will reveal God's plan for the future. It is sealed by seven seals and no being in heaven is considered worthy of opening it -- except for Jesus. Why Jesus? Because Jesus is one with the Father and died on our behalf, making Him uniquely qualified to fulfill God’s plan for humanity.
The good news is that Christ suffered and died and was raised to life on the third day. Death is defeated; the power of sin is broken. The forgiveness of sins and eternal life is now available to all who believe in the powerful name of Jesus.
As Peter said in Acts 4:12: "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved."
As the old Bill & Gloria Gaither song goes, "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, there's just something about that name. Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, but there's something about that name."
Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One humanity has been waiting for to save them. He is prophet, priest and king. Let us worship Him with our all and remember that He is the real reason for the Christmas season!
I will continue in the sermon series called "Names for Christmas" this coming Sunday, December 14th as we talk about Jesus as our "LORD."
Please Note: Our Christmas Dinner at FCC will take place following the morning worship service.
The weather forecast is calling for some more snow and bone-chilling temperatures on Saturday night/Sunday morning. We are, however, taking appropriate measures and planning on having worship service AND the Christmas Dinner! I hope and pray you have a great weekend and that we'll see you at FCC this Sunday!
God Bless,
Greg H.
