Greetings in Christ and happy Friday to you!
It's the last day of February. I know it's the shortest month of the year, but it seems as if February has flown by!
Some great things are happening at First Christian Church in Lexington, KY.
There are two things I'd especially like to mention.
First, I've recently mentioned that we are working with the Christian Church Leadership Network this year as we try to be the healthiest church possible. Our initial step is a survey that collects and collates hard data on our congregation, covering areas such as leadership, culture, worship, discipleship, giving, and volunteering. The survey is simple to take (10-15 minutes). We need as many folks as possible to take it. This will help out tremendously. I checked this week and, so far, we have 25 surveys completed. I want to at least double that number. We have just over a week to go. The survey will be available through Sunday, March 9th. Can you help by giving a few minutes to take the survey? If you need help accessing the survey and/or reading the QR code, please let me or Rafaelito Fraden know. We will help you.
Second, we have a special Sunday at FCC coming up soon. When laying out the church calendar for the year, I like to plan one day where we go out of the way to give everyone an extra boost of encouragement. This day typically comes at a time when we’re worn out from the winter and ready to embrace the coming of spring. I’m super excited about this day!
On Sunday, March 9th, we will have "CHEERFUL HEART" Sunday. Brother Wally Rendel will be preaching for us. A great gospel quartet known as "Grace x 4" will bring special music. Please make plans to be at FCC on March 9th and bring some friends with you!
The Apostle Paul writes in Romans (chapter 1) that people are without excuses for not knowing there is an almighty God of the universe.
Paul says that all people can look around in Creation and see God's handiwork. Instead, we often exchange worship of God the Creator for worshiping created THINGS. It's very sad.
In much the same way, when God came to earth in human flesh, many failed to recognize it.
We read in John 8:58-59, "Very truly I tell you, Jesus answered, before Abraham was born, I am! At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds."
By using the term "I AM," Jesus announced himself to be God in flesh, committing the ultimate sin of blasphemy in the minds of His Jewish audience. Many of the Jewish folks simply could not comprehend that this simple guy from Nazareth could be the very Son of God, in human form.
How about you and me? Do we recognize Jesus as the great I AM? Or is Jesus just a good prophet and buddy?
We have no excuse if we fail to see Jesus as Lord of the universe.
May God bless you and I hope and pray to see you soon!
In Him,
Greg H.
