Greetings in Christ and happy Friday to you!
I hope and pray you've had a great week so far.
I want to begin by saying thanks so much for everyone who took time to come to my father's Celebration of Life service last Saturday (07.11.26) at FCC!
Thanks also to everyone who helped in getting the food and fellowship hall ready!
I was blown away by such a great showing of love and compassion!
I finally went and watched "Young Washington" at the movies yesterday (07.16.26). It is an excellent movie! I highly recommend it.
The story is about the early life of our country's first president, George Washington, and primarily focuses on his experiences in the French and Indian War between 1753 and 1755.
Many miraculous things happened surrounding Washington and the forming of America as a nation. This all made Washington feel that he was "divinely appointed to lead America through the Revolution and into nationhood." (quite from the Gospel Coalition)
In his first inaugural address, on April 30, 1789, Washington recognized this and gave God the credit saying, “No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the Invisible Hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. Every step by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency.”
Washington and his realization of his mission made me think of what the Apostle Paul said of David in Acts 13:36: "Now when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep."
I pray that the same would be said of you and I after we "fall asleep." I pray they would say that we "served God’s purpose in our generation."
This coming Sunday (07.19.26), I will be continuing in our new series of sermons called "Head for the Hills” -- Meeting God on the Mountains of Scripture.
On Sunday, we will be looking at when God gave the Ten Commandments and called His people to holy living on Mount Sinai.
